Privacy Policy

AI Video Learning Assistant is a browser extension that turns a video's transcript into a summary, study notes, flashcards and answers. This policy says what it does with your data.
What the extension processes
- The transcript of the video you are watching. The extension reads the captions the page already provides. It does this on the page, in your browser.
- The video's audio, only if you press "Transcribe audio". The extension plays the video, records its sound, and sends the recording to Groq to turn it into text.
- Your API key(s), if you enter them in Settings.
- Notes and transcripts you save.
What is sent off your device
You choose where AI answers come from. Nothing is sent until you press a button (Summarize, Study notes, Flashcards, Ask, or Transcribe audio).
- On this device. If your Chrome has its built-in AI model, the text is processed on your computer by Chrome. Nothing leaves your device.
- Your own API key. The transcript text and your question go to the AI service you chose, using your key: Groq (api.groq.com), Google Gemini (generativelanguage.googleapis.com), OpenAI (api.openai.com), OpenRouter (openrouter.ai), or a server address you enter yourself. Recorded audio, if you ask for it to be transcribed, always goes to Groq. Each service processes the data under its own terms and privacy policy. Nothing goes to the developer.
- Free trial (optional, only if you press "Start free trial"). The transcript text and your question go to the developer's small proxy service, which forwards them to Groq with the developer's key and returns the answer. The proxy does not save or log the text or the answers. It keeps only counters (successful runs and requests per random install ID, requests per network address and per day) to enforce the trial limit, plus a random ID for each run for one day, so a run is counted only once it has finished. The install ID is a random number created in your browser and is not linked to your name or account. Audio is never sent through the trial.
Nothing is sent automatically. Fetching captions never contacts any server other than the page you are already on.
What is stored, and where
Everything is stored only in your browser (chrome.storage.local):
- your API key (if you add one) and a random install ID (used only for the free-trial counter),
- saved notes and summaries (you can view, download or delete them in the "Saved notes" screen),
- the last 30 transcripts, so a revisited video does not have to be fetched again,
- your settings.
Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it. The API key is stored unencrypted in browser storage, as is usual for extensions. Do not use the extension on a computer you do not trust.
What we do not do
- No analytics, tracking, advertising or telemetry.
- No selling or sharing of data.
- No remote code: everything the extension runs is in the installed package.
- No reading of pages' content beyond video captions, and nothing the page shows you is collected.
Why it needs access to all websites
Videos can be on any site, so the extension runs a small script on every page and frame to find a video and read its captions. The script observes caption files the page loads (names containing "caption", "subtitle", "timedtext" or ending in .vtt/.srt). They are kept in memory on that page and are never sent anywhere except as transcript text when you press a button.
Children
The extension is not directed at children.
